Model Aircraft Air Show
Today is the last day to see the West Texas Warbirds: Radio Controlled Model Aircraft Air Show. The modelers and guests of Wings Miniature Aircraft Society, Lubbock, TX welcome all to share their passion for military model aviation and invites everyone to attend their radio controlled model air show. Many of the aircrafts in West Texas Warbirds are built from scratch or plans, or assembled from kits that are largely pre-fabricated.
Often, modelers devote hundreds of hours to researching, engineering and constructing their model aircraft subjects before they are ready to fly. All are completely remote controlled with sophisticated flight control functions. The flying site in Abernathy is just a short drive north of Lubbock on Interstate 27. It is located just four miles East of I-27 on FM 2060 (Exit 21) at the Abernathy Municipal Airport. For more information visit the Wings Miniature Aircraft Society's website!

Don’t Forget Dad!
Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 19th. What was the best advice you ever received from your Father? Share it with us! We’d love to hear it.
Or just enjoy some of these pithy quotes about our favorite dads:
"A new father quickly learns that his child invariably comes to the bathroom at precisely the times when he's in there, as if he needed company. The only way for this father to be certain of bathroom privacy is to shave at the gas station." -- Bill Cosby
"A father is always making his baby into a little woman. And when she is a woman he turns her back again." -- Enid Bagnold
"A father is a guy who has snapshots in his wallet where his money used to be." – Unknown
"My father always told me, 'Find a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life.' " -- Jim Fox
"A father is a banker provided by nature." -- French Proverb
"My father said, 'Politics asks the question: Is it expedient? Vanity asks: Is it popular? But conscience asks: Is it right?'" -- Dexter Scott King
"When I was a kid, I said to my father one afternoon, 'Daddy, will you take me to the zoo?' He answered, 'If the zoo wants you, let them come and get you.'" -- Jerry Lewis
"Small boy's definition of Father's Day: It's just like Mother's Day only you don't spend so much." – Unknown
"By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong." -- Charles Wadsworth

New Parking Enforcement Technology On Campus
Here is some important information for those of you who park on the Texas Tech campus:
“Parking tags are history. Instead a camera will snap a picture of your car's tags. The License Plate Recognition system is relatively new to the university. The university has the ability to hold the data for up to one year. The technology was originally designed for security at military bases, but with a few changes programmers at Texas Tech have adapted the program for parking enforcement.
Michael Warren used to walk the parking lots looking for violators five years ago. Now he rides around and with the help of the LPR system he also listens for violations. What used to take supervisors hours, now takes minutes. "The technology has changed quite a bit. We can check hundreds if not thousands now," explained Warren…‘We gain efficiency and consistency and drivers in the wrong spot are more likely to get a ticket,’ added Lambert.
‘It will catch anyone without a permit and people who have too many citations,’ said Warren.”
For the complete article, click here, and for more information about parking restrictions check out the University Parking Services website.

Get Footloose at Texas Tech
Come check out a piece of Broadway right here at Texas Tech. The Department of Theatre and Dance is putting on their production of Footloose from now until May 1st. One of the “most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. In this adaptation from the 1984 film of the same name, a city kid attempts to adapt to life in a conservative backwater Midwestern town. Once there, he ends up leading the repressed teenagers into a rebellion against the town fathers, who have outlawed rock & roll and dancing. To the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar- and Tony-nominated top 40 score and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.” Check out the Theatre Department page for ticket information
